At my level, its pretty hard to keep up with the “almost daily” launches in the beauty world. This time however, I have been lucky enough to review the new foundation brought to us by Dior from their new “Backstage” collection.. It also doesn’t hurt to mention that its their most affordable foundation from their variety at $40!
Now its been a week and a half testing this foundation though long days, and very hot temperatures too, so I now feel ready to give a personal opinion towards this foundation. Since I knew about the launch date of this collection, I have been anticipating getting my hands — especially on this backstage foundation. From the way it was described, it sounded like the perfect matte foundation with a natural finish, that is sweat & water proof: exactly what I have been looking for.. Yet after having experienced it myself, with combination/breakout prone skin, it still left me with a few things to desire. Though what I wish it could do on its own, like have a less powdery liquid formula during application, and a much quicker setting time, I think its a pretty impressive foundation — but one just for those special occasions!
Like I mentioned, with my skin type and its unique quirks, there’s a specific technique I use, that makes applying this foundation a little more easy.
After cleansing and exfoliating my skin, I use any toner, then follow with super pure serum from Glossier, my new favorite La roche Posay cicaplast baume b5 as moisturizer (this baby is super emollient so it ensures a smooth foundation application). Any makeup sponge that can be used wet will work to remove any streaking that may occur, and that has been the key for flawless application, since this Dior foundation can tend to look a bit cakey if I’m not careful. with doing this, I still get that natural finish the foundation promises! As for being sweat proof, it is sweat and hell temperatures approved lol! unfortunately I haven’t gone swimming with it, or done any other wet activities to say if it is, so I’ll have to get back to you on that one..?
I do enjoy the squeeze bottle packaging, because it reminds me of my favorite dewy skin tint bottle of Glossier perfecting skin tint! As reflex, I also squeeze the bottle and dispense the foundation directly on my face like all the glossier cool girls do! This Dior squeezy bottle though has its own — other lovely details to it. The bottle is soft and matte to the touch, very beautiful to photograph as well! The foundation formula is very liquidy and there is no rush to apply, but the setting time (on me) takes about an hour. That’s quite a bit imo.. On sephra and on Dior’s webisites, they recommend it to be applied with a foundation brush. To achieve a medium coverage, apply two layers, and for full coverage, apply a third. Personally, I can only take two layers on my skin. If I have any other blemish or redness to cover, I go with a light touch of concealer and that’s it.
All in all, I have decided to keep this one for the collection, even though it is definitely not for everyday use with its strategic application requirements.
See you on the next beauty edit!???❤️
