Aaannd hopefully you found the amazing people I featured on last month’s “Instagram Spotlight” a good addition to your “following” list! Well, this month I have brought you another 3 with very beautiful insta accounts, better than anything you could find on pinterest!😍💕 These women are hard workers and inspire me to not get lazy or give time or room to any negativity and doubts about what I do! I hope you find them just so, and enjoy this month’s edition! lets get to it!
PS: let me know if I should keep asking the same questions, or ask different ones, or keep the same three question but add a few more new ones. I’d appreciate your thoughts! 😘❤
Q: Just let me know in your own words how you got into skincare or beauty in general or why it interested you?
I got into skincare and beauty because of my mother, who is an esthetician and used to own her own medical spa. I grew up watching her help people who had skin issues and witnessed her change their lives. She represented the brand Obagi and I’m pretty sure now a days not many people know of the brand, but some old school beauty gurus would probably know what I’m talking about, lol. She was always testing any new products of theirs before considering putting them on the shelves because she truly believes in knowing how the product works and understanding what exactly it does to ones skin before representing it. She had always been educated when it comes to skincare and offered the best skincare tips of which I’ve realized has been beneficial to my skin condition today. I have to admit that having good skin effects how good I feel about my appearance by the end of the day. Having a breakout or makeup that doesn’t sit well on my skin because of its texture can easily give me low self esteem. Not saying I can speak for everyone else but I feel like there’s a lot of people out there who are like me that can feel insecure when their skin isn’t at its best. Like my mother I want to share my skincare tips that I know has worked well for me and help change someone else’s life. Maybe it’s not a big deal to some people but to the few who may have dry, sensitive, acne prone skin like me, I would’ve appreciated the tips or in depth review for a product I’m looking to purchase because my skin is an investment. So yeah a pretty long story, I hope it explains a bit as to why I got into skincare/beauty, my mother was always my inspiration and role model when it comes to skincare/beauty and a business woman. I may not be an esthetician like her but I’ve learned a lot from her and till this day, her lessons for me have always been a part of my daily life. This is something I grew up on and is constantly around, so why not share what I know with like minds and be on common ground with people who loves the same thing I do?
I got into skincare because I was struggling a lot with oily skin and acne, but I knew nothing. I would use really harsh salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide cleansers and not use moisturizer because I thought drying out my skin would make it less oily! I eventually found Liah Yoo’s videos on Youtube, and that’s how I entered the skincare community. As for makeup, I always played around with my mother and sister’s makeup collections, but I really got into beauty in 2017. I had gone through a terrible breakup with someone who constantly made me feel bad about my appearance, and makeup was a great gateway into feeling more confident about myself and getting myself back on my feet. These initial interests in skincare and makeup really blew up once I started my Instagram, and now my collection is constantly growing!
I got into skin care because of my mother-in-law, she has taught me so many valuable life lessons, I look up to her a lot! She is a surgeon, and her skin is flawless. She introduced me to my favorite skincare product, the La Roche Posay Hydraphase moisturizer. That was about 7 years ago, and it saved my skin. She also taught me the 3 simple rules that I live by for my skin: clean it well, moisturize often and use SPF! We do a lot together and makeup shopping is one of the things we enjoy the most. For me it’s about SELF – love, respect, appreciation. It all stems from the need to care for myself physically and mentally. I love applying makeup as much as I love taking it off. I love that it helps enhance all the things I love about my features. At the end of the day, taking care of what’s underneath is what’s important – both inside and outside.
Q: What do you do apart from posting lovely insta pics?
I’m an undergraduate student at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois! I’m studying communications and Asian American studies, and I hope to work for a few years after graduation before going to law school. I also play competitive badminton, bake a ton, and drink a lot of boba.
Insta is my hobby, I do it when I can and when I feel like it. It is the one place where I do not take myself too seriously, which is something I needed in my life. Outside of insta I like to read – fiction, fantasy and “self-help” (for lack of a better term) books are my favorite. I also love to workout, I do so at least 5 times a week and I like to cook. I also travel often and love to brunch. I am a home body, and feel best when I have lots of time to care for myself physically and mentally so I make sure to prioritize activities that feed my soul and make me happy.
I work in Fulfillment and Logistics as a Client Logistics Specialist and own a family business with my uncle. Most people don’t know what a Logistics Specialist does, so to try and put it in simple words I basically oversee and facilitate the supply chain operations for companies that hire me to manage/organize the storage, and distribution of their goods to retailers and consumers. It’s a pretty neat and fast pace career that keeps me on my feet at all times. There’s definitely a story behind every order and working in this business I guess I can say I’ve grown a more understanding mind set as a consumer. As you can tell I sound like I’m pretty involved in my work and I hate to admit it, but I am a workaholic. My instagram is probably the only place that takes my mind away from my work because I now have a creative outlet and I’m focusing more on the new found friendships with some great individuals (like you!), bonding over skincare/beauty.
Q: Your most loved products?
My most loved products is a very hard question! Before it would have been my brow products but since microblading, my priorities have shifted. I am therefore choosing a favorite area of interest. My cheeks. I absolutely always have to bronze and blush. Even if I am not wearing any make-up I will always apply these products. I just think a beautiful glow gives such life to the face and I hate looking dull! I have been in a deep love affair with cream/liquid products – it’s pretty much all I use. My true loves are the Milk Makeup Matte Bronzer in Baked and the Glossier Cloud Paint in Beam. I have all the Glossier Cloud Paints, but I have always loved a coral blush so I gravitate to those sunset hues. In terms of skin care I think moisturizers are my favorite part, no matter how tiered or “not in the mood” I am, I love massaging my face with a nice oil or lotion. My loves are the Kiehls Ultra Facial Cream (with and without SPF) and the Drunk Elephant Lala Cream + their Marula Oil. I have also realized that a Vitamin C serum is essential for me, it helps give me that lit from within look I always aspire to have. I am testing out some, but if you don’t have one in your routine I highly recommend it!
My most love products would be from Troiareuke, COSRX, and Dr. Jart+. I’ve always suffered from dry, sensitive, acne prone skin. If I try to treat a pimple with a product that’s good for the pimple but harsh for the rest of my skin I tend to flare up instantly. My skin becomes irritated and red, I can’t help it but scratch my skin because it itches so much then I end up leaving myself with open skin that either gets a scab or dry patch of skin over it the next day. It totally sucks because I can only do so much for my skin, it’s either treat the dry sensitive skin or the breakout. So through my long skincare journey I have found products such as: Troiareuke Acsen Selemix Serum, helped treat my breakouts without irritating the rest of my skin. Troiareuke Recovery Cream, helped with my scars, hyper pigmentation and even the dry patchy areas on my face. COSRX Acne Pimple Master Pimple Patch, my god this bad boy just sucks the life out the pimple, truly fascinating when you look at the patch the next day. COSRX BHA Blackhead Power Liquid, simple gentle BHA product that aids in removing dead skin cells without again irritating my skin. COSRX Centella Blemish Cream, I love this product I’ve gone through jars of this, I still continue to reorder it because it does it’s job at brightening the skin, calming irritation and I’ve noticed some of my acne scars has faded using this product. Dr. Jart+ Tiger Grass Serum and Cream, both are awesome, I think I would prefer the serum more because it works instantly at calming my skin down from irritation and inflammation, I live it by and I swear by it.
Where do I even begin? Here’s a list that is nowhere near complete.
1. Banilaco Clean it Zero: the best cleansing balm I’ve ever tried, and it’s one of the few cleansing balms or oils that don’t irritate my eyes
2. Krave Beauty Matcha Hemp Hydrating Cleanser: the absolute best cleanser that leaves my skin clean but not tight at all
3. Krave Beauty Kale-Lalu-yAHA Exfoliator: such a great AHA exfoliator, my skin owes this so much !
4. Thayers Rose Petal Witch Hazel Toner: my HG toner that I’ve bought like 5+ bottles of, that helps with my pores/oiliness/acne
5. Cosrx Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Essence: the texture of this is so unique and lovely, and it provides great hydration!
6. Drunk Elephant 100% Virgin Marula Luxury Facial Oil: this mixed with any night cream feels so, so amazing and hydrating and is super effective for oily skin too
7. Laneige Water Bank Moisture Cream: super cooling and soothing and hydrating, this is one of my favorite moisturizers!
8. Cosrx Ultimate Nourishing Rice Overnight Spa Mask: adding a thin layer before bed lets me wake up with amazingly soft and bouncy skin
9. Glossier Boy Brow: my first glossier product that I’ve bought over and over again
10. Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Finish Powder: this is a more recent buy, but I know that this will be a favorite for a long, long time to come – my skin looks flawless and poreless after applying it.
